Almost Famous [2000]

“I’m telling secrets to the one guy you don’t tell secrets to.”

Director : Cameron Crowe

Writer : Cameron Crowe

Actors : Kate Hudson, Billy Crudup, Patrick Fugit

Story : We have a geeky teenager whose only passion is music. But thanks to a good genetic pool he has the writing skills and after some successful article in a local newspaper he gets a call from The Rolling Stones to do an article about an up and coming rock band Stillwater. So he goes on a tour with them, where between amazing music he learns about friendship, love and about the reality of life, the usual things you’d expect from a coming of age movie.

What I Liked About It:

Kate Hudson – perfect for the free-spirited Penny Lane

the music – Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and the list goes on.

the atmosphere –  managed to grasp that authentic rock and roll feel

the ending – i think the ending can make or break a movie, and in this case it just made the film stronger

all around great performances

What I Didn’t Like About It:

a tad bit sugar-coated for a period piece

Final Note : 3.5 out of 4

Interesting Facts:

Originally Brad Pitt was cast as Russel Hammond but dropped out of the project after a few months because he felt he “doesn’t get it enough to do it”
